Even the author of the book “Killing Eve” did not like the end of the series

As you may have heard by now, the long-awaited series finale of Kill Eve did not sit well with many fans. The years-long sexual tension between the two main characters, Eve (Sandra Oh) and Villanelle (Jodie Comer), was finally settled this season… only to end with the latter’s brutal and needless death at the end.

It’s reasonable to suspect that a happy ending for a spy and an assassin might not be in the cards, but given that the series was based on a series of books by Luke Jennings, in which they actually a happily ever after that still matches their story and genre, it could have been done. And now Jennings himself has come forward to express his disappointment with the changes to the show.

“Over the past week I have received messages from all over the world from Kill Eve fans expressing their feelings, often in very moving ways, about the latest episode of the TV series,” he wrote on his blog. “With all due respect to the writers of the show and the many magical moments they gave us, I think we all know the story doesn’t end there.”

It was a heartwarming reminder to some fans that there is a canon version of the story where the two end up alive and together, but at the same time it doesn’t erase what the show has done, leaving people with conflicting feelings all around.

Jennings also teased a new novel for TV development and promised that after that he plans to work on a new “adventure” around Villanelle.

“On the page, if not the TV screen, Villanelle lives,” he wrote. “Believe in her.”
